Based on his experiences as an army private stationed in Biloxi, MS, Neil Simon brings us the story of Eugene Jerome, Simon's beloved protagonist. He is determined to survive and find love. It's a tender, funny story with moments of heart wrenching truth about life, friendship, and courage, featuring surprising moments of tension.

If you have a scheduling conflict with the audition dates, please email the director to make arrangements.

ROLES TO BE FILLED:

Eugene Morris Jerome (play 18-24)- Charming, witty, and talented. Humor is his tool and his weapon. He carry us through his experience as an observer, a student, and critic.

Arnold Epstein (play 18-24)- A sensitive and highly principled Jewish intellectual from Queens. He is uncompromising, nearly to a fault. He has a hard time adapting to military values.

Roy Selridge (play 18-24)- A confident man who thinks of himself as funny. A bit of a follower, but good at heart.

Joseph Wykowski (play 20-26)- The tough guy. A Pole from Connecticut. He sees himself as the leader and although he is anti-intellectual, the role suits him. Strong stomach and endless sex drive. A brute, and lacks any filter for race or sexuality.

Don Carney (play 18-24)- A private from New Jersey who thinks himself as having star potential as a singer. His bunkmates disagree. An honest and faithful guy, though has not fully grown into himself.

James Hennesy (play 18-24)- sensitive, naive, and quiet, but develops as one of the more complex characters, challenging the prejudices of others.

Sgt. Merwin J. Toomey (30-50)- The tough-as-nails drill sergeant. He is the very personification of a grueling set of lessons in front of a back drop of difficult conditions. He puts the platoon to the test, and they return fire.

Rowena (26-40)- a resourceful Biloxi prostitute with southern lady flair, meeting loose ends and making men out of boys as well as any drill sergeant. She is patient and savvy.

Daisy Hannigan (play 18-24)- a local girl, close in age to Eugene. The daughter of a journalist, she is well read, someone Eugene can relate to.
